Patio awning for catering in Chemnitz
The cubic, white house with its striking architecture rises high above the gently sloping plot of a new housing estate in Chemnitz, Saxony. Large window fronts, interesting offsets between the storeys and a cantilevered terrace set design accents. With its cubic design, the white Kubata cassette awning from awning manufacturer Weinor in Cologne blends into the ensemble as if from a single mould - purist architecture at its best.
Built in 2015 according to plans by the Saxon architect Andreas Richter, who is known for his Bauhaus style, the detached house with a floor area of 150m2 epitomises a modern building concept. The upper floor, which projects over the terrace, was designed to provide shade on the 30m2 plateau.
However, the clients soon realised that the shaded area was not sufficient for comprehensive outdoor use of the area. "We wanted to make full use of our terrace, even when the sun was really beating down," reports the owner, "and in the evening, we wanted the awning to hold back the heat on the patio and provide a cosy atmosphere."
Cubic design language
It was important to the design-savvy clients that the patio awning blended harmoniously into the façade and did not draw too much attention away from the overall design. A recommendation from master roller shutter and blind maker Claus Dippmann from master craftsman Rollo Voigt in Chemnitz put them on the right track. He knew that sun and weather protection expert Weinor had long focussed on straightforward product design and recommended the Kubata cubic cassette awning to the family.
Thanks to its purist design and considerable dimensions of up to 26m2, the Kubata sun protection awning really scored points with the homeowners. "It fits in very well visually with our house," summarises the owner, "we looked at many alternatives and made a conscious decision in favour of this solution." With its cubic shape, the awning blends harmoniously into the modern architecture of the house, with the sun shading system and façade forming a balanced unit.
But it wasn't just the design that was an important argument in favour of the patio awning. "The fully enclosed awning cassette protects the awning fabric and the technical equipment from the weather, and the rainwater drain at the front of the front profile ensures controlled drainage," reports the master roller shutter and blind maker. Another plus for him is the almost flush attachment of the Kubata sun protection awning to the wall: "This means that neither rainwater nor dirt can contaminate the house wall under the awning cassette."
Large selection of fabric designs and frame colours
The homeowners also had specific ideas when it came to choosing the awning fabric. "We wanted a light, plain-coloured awning fabric," says the owner, "because the bottom line is that the awning should harmonise with the house in its overall design, which is not so easy with a plain building." With Weinor, the homeowners had more than 140 designs to choose from and ultimately selected an awning fabric in a harmonious off-white colour. They also opted for a matching shade of white for the frame colour. With 50 standard and 150 other RAL colours, it was no problem to find the right shade.
So far, the experience with the Kubata sun protection awning has been very positive. "The area underneath the patio awning is fantastic, and the added value of the awning easily makes up for the purchase costs," says the landlady happily. And it's not just the owner who is delighted, but also her friends and acquaintances when the patio awning is extended to its full height by radio control. There was no need for a recommendation, "the viewing was enough", remarks the lady of the house with a wink.
